Girton SC hosted it's first ever Streaker Open meeting on Saturday 16 June
with an oppressive forecast. In the event the force 1-3 winds mainly from the
South held up all day and apart from a few spots of rain the promised deluge
failed to materialise, although lightning, thunderstorms and heavy rain were
seen all round the horizon at various times. The 12 Streakers that took part
all had an interesting sail, with abundant windshifts to keep them alert.
A last minute 90 degree windshift forced a drastic relocation of the start line
for Race 1, but the fleet got away smoothly after only a short delay. Nick Lovell
(OASC) led the first lap closely pursued by Ian Bradley (OASC) before Bradley
squeezed past him into a lead which he held to the finishing line.
In Race 2. Nick Lovell and Dave Smith (Welton SC) led from Ian Bradley and Stuart
Hood (Hornsea SC) up a long first beat before being taken away by an insidious
header that left Bradley and Hood clear ahead. In the chase that followed Bradley
kept clear with Lovell working his way through to second. Graham Nelson finally
said enough is enough for the venerable 155, as he struggled to keep the water
level below the false floor!
Race 3 saw Nick Lovell establish a commanding lead only to see it removed by
fickle shifts on a single short beat in the second lap. Ian Bradley managed
to catch and pass him to score his third bullet of the day although Lovell kept
the pressure on all the way to the finishing line. Most of the rest of the fleet
held the same positions in all 3 races with David Smith and Stuart Hood in 3rd
and 4th places respectively.
Results overall: 1.Ian Bradley (Ouse ASC), 2 Nick Lovell (Ouse ASC), 3 David Smith (Welton SC), 4 Stuart Hood (Hornsea SC), 5 Pete Tyerman (Pennine SC), 6 Andrew Francis (Girton SC), 7 Roger Wallis (South Yorks SC), 8 Brian Rennie (Girton SC), 9 Lianne Therkelson Welton SC), 10 Dorothy Gennard (Girton SC), 11 Graham Nelson, 13 Julia Edwards (Girton SC).
