Broxbourne Sailing Club

A pleasant force 3 gusting 4 greeted the Streakers and Lasers for their joint open meeting at Broxbourne on Sunday 16th September.

In race 1 Ian Mansfield (Ardleigh SC) lead from the start and built up a commanding lead to take the win, followed by Alan Simmons (Lancing SC) and Geoff Town (Broxbourne SC).

In race 2 Alan led at the start closely followed by Peter Selway (Broxbourne SC). Ian encounted problems when his main fell down causing him to be blown into the incoming fleet of 22 Lasers! He finally managed to pull up his main but by now was over a half a lap behind the fleet. At the front Alan managed to pull away from Peter with Geoff in third. As the wind increased Ian began to charge through the fleet and by the last lap he was up to second and closing in on Alan. Alan crossed the line first but graciously retired due to sailing the wrong course thus giving Ian the win and Peter a well deserved second.

The final race started in the strongest conditions of the day with Ian leading at the first mark and by the second lap he had pulled out a substantial lead which he increased to take his third win with Alan in second the only other finisher.
